We are a multi-cultural, multi-lingual and multiracial patchwork family and we are traveling the world since beginning of March 2023.

You can read more about our Why? here and how we actually left everything behind here.

Ray is in his late forties, has Taiwanese roots, grew up in New Zealand and immigrated to the UK about 20 years ago. He has always been part of the IT world in different functions from software developer to agile practitioner to transformation manager. He worked in start-ups as well as big cooperations. One of the best ways for him to switch off from work always had been cooking. He cooks a good mix of food but very Asian inspired. His dream is to show others how healthy, easy and cheap Asian cuisine can be and while we don’t have a physical kitchen right now where he can do that, this blog and Instagram can help to gather experience. He is a very silly daddy and loves computer games ever since he is a teen. He reads several books at once but also enjoys his Manga. He obviously speaks Mandarin and English and thanks to his hard work on Duolingo , he also understands a lot of German.

The Teen is 15, he used to attend main stream school but that was not right for him (more about that elsewhere), he happily embraced the change and is currently in the process of finding who he is, what he wants and how he wants to get there. In the meantime he learns to speak German, listens to music and does sports. He is into Parcours & climbing and occasionally still enjoys playing with his sister. He reads, writes, speaks so far only English.

The Toddler, now 3.5 years old, is definitely our wild child. She loves the outdoors in all weathers, asks 1000 questions each day and really soaks in everything around her. She used to be shy but travelling has really changed her to be much more outgoing and social. She loves dancing, swimming, puddles and helping in the household. She can be found in either wellies or bare feet 😉 Since we have been to Sicily, she insists that she is a “principessa” and although she picked up some French and Italian words she is mostly speaking English but understands also German and Mandarin.

Junior, our oldest son, is only occasionally joining us in our adventures. He is 22 and works currently in the outdoor adventure industry in the UK. We were happy to spend time with him in Morocco and he will also fly out to New Zealand this winter. He is trilingual German, French and English.

I am Daniela, equally in my forties and the organiser and planner of this crazy bunch. Born in Bavaria, I moved to Berlin for my studies to be a teacher and translator. I ended up in the UK and in IT 11 years ago and worked first in the agile world but found my place in product where I helped mostly start-ups but equally big companies to find their product-market-fit or help decide which new products or features would bring most value. Even pre- pandemic I worked remotely and while I love what I do I also needed to find time to spend with my family and look after my physical and mental health.

I love reading, listening to alternative music and have always been a bit of a hippie. For years I dreamt about owning a camper van and just hitting the road, but I am also neurodiverse and struggle with things that are not planned and I can get overwhelmed by noise and artificial light. On top of that, I get motion sick easily (long story) so it never substantiated. Then came the kids and dreams were placed on hold. How silly! Well, now it all changed and although we are on the road now, we actually decided against a camper van. I speak German, French and English fluently with Italian, Spanish, Dutch and Swedish conversational and have just started for the 3rd time to try to learn Mandarin (so hard!)

Together we are adjusting to our new way of life and while not always easy we definitely learn so much more about each other than we ever thought possible!
